With a versatile voice that lends itself to folk, pop, jazz and blues arrangements, Alberta-raised Jenny Allen is a talented singer-songwriter whose lyrics intertwine themselves around her unusual guitar work. Listening to Something to Say--produced by Valdy--is a delight. From the hard-edged vulnerability of "Freeway Lines" to the jazz-oriented "Flesh And Bone," to the lonesome "Sail Away," she has created a contemporary folk album that should interest listeners who also enjoy early Joni Mitchell recordings. Allen's slightly countryish voice lingers on in your mind long after the album has finished.
