Brenda Baker

(Contemporary; Children's; Singer-Songwriter)

Saskatchewan-based Brenda Baker is a multi-talented artist who balances songwriting, children's music and the production of her own kid's TV show. Her debut CD Brenda Baker (1989) introduces her fine singing voice, mature songwriting and energetic, experimental arrangements.

"Wow! Zap! Pow! This is like no other recording you'll ever own"--Sing Out! Daughter of Double-Dare (1993) inspires this kind of comment. A combination spoken/sung recording, its feminist lyrics and sentiments exude energy and creativity. There are some great songs on the album, but some listeners may find the interspersing of readings among the music somewhat distracting.

Looking for Grandma's Teeth (1994) is a more conventional children's album focusing mainly on humourous material. The songs are sprightly, well sung and well arranged. An excellent children's album.
