Diana Braithwaite

(Contemporary; Singer-Songwriter)

On In This Time Diana Braithwaite sings compelling songs about the experiences of Black people. "Black Angel" is "dedicated to the thousands of Black women and men who sought freedom via the Underground Railroad during slavery." "Just the Way That I Planned It" is a song "dedicated to the Maroons--a group of Black people who refused to be enslaved. Upon arriving in Nova Scotia from Jamaica, many left to return to Africa." Braithwaite combines strong lyrics with sparse arrangements in projecting her full, excellent voice.
