Cori Brewster

(Contemporary; Country; Singer-Songwriter)

Cori Brewster, an Alberta native, is a singer-songwriter, promoter, radio show host and director of the Kananaskis Guest Ranch songwriting workshop. Brewster turned to music after graduating from the University of Alberta with a degree in physical education. Raised in a country-music tradition, Brewster brings a fine, energetic voice to her recordings.

Brewster's debut CD from 1994, One More Mountain, offers a collection of original material and covers. A collaborative songwriter, Brewster shares songwriting credits with Dennis Wharton, Stephen Lester Smith, Johnny Douglas, Louis Sedmak and Alison Hogan. The album is mainstream country in sound. While Brewster's driving, spirited contributions are strong, the highlight of the album is her excellent cover of Nanci Griffith's "Spin on a Red Brick Floor."

Her second album, Stones, released in 1998, shows Brewster moving from mainstream country to a more country/folk, introspective sound. The lower-velocity, softer arrangements provide a more interesting vehicle for Brewster's lyrics. The sound, which places a greater focus on acoustic instrumentation than One More Mountain provides a contemporary, enjoyable sound.
