The liner notes to One Evening As I Rambled ... A Collection Of Traditional Songs, Stories, and Tunes provide very little information about Moira Cameron other than that she hails from Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories and that she specializes in traditional music. The album itself is riveting. Whether Cameron is playing recorder, bowed psaltery, Appalachian dulcimer, or singing traditional songs with or without accompaniment, this is a splendid album for those who love the traditional repertoire. Moira Cameron is the daughter of the late Stu Cameron, one of the founding members of Friends of Fiddler's Green.
Lilies Among the Bushes (1998) is Cameron's second solo album (she is also a member of the Yellowknife group Ceilidh Friends). Continuing her exploration of the traditional folk repertoire, the album includes songs seldom recorded these days, such as "Crafty Maid's Policy," "Elfin Night," "Jock O'Hazeldean," and "Willie of Winsbury." There are also two modern entries--"Martha" by MacQuarrie and Gilday and "Grit's Tune" by Grit Laskin and Moira Cameron. The combination of Child ballads, a cappella singing, Appalachian and hammered dulcimers, autoharp, recorders and backup vocals from Ceilidh Friends makes this a good purchase for anyone who loves traditional music.
