Captain Tractor

(Celtic Rock; Singer-Songwriter)

Edmonton's Captain Tractor is an energetic Celtic band reminiscent of early Spirit of the West. With rocked up arrangements, combined with a sprinkling of mandolin, banjo, harmonica, penny whistle, and twelve-string guitar among the electric guitars and drums, the band could play any Celtic pub in the country. Two bouncy folksongs, the traditional "Jug O' Punch" and Wade Hemsworth's "The Logdriver's Waltz" close out the group's slightly frenetic debut album, Land (1994). Captain Tractor is Brock Armstrong, Aimée Hill, Jules Mounteer, Scott Peters, Jeff Smook, and Chris Wynters.

East of Eden (1996) continues with the same driving energy and an even tighter, more integrated sound. Captain Tractor has emerged as one of the best Celtic rock bands in Canada, presenting a mix of original material and covers. The best cuts on the album are the covers: "Drunken Sailor," "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate," and "Lord of the Dance."
