In an unusual collaboration, Ireland's Liam Clancy, a member of the original Clancy Brothers, joins Canadian duo Kevin Evans and Brian Doherty on Shine on Brighter (1996). The album is a selection of Canadian folk songs drawn primarily from the Maritimes with a few folk classics such as Ian Tyson's "Four Strong Winds," Stan Rogers' "Make and Break Harbour," Wade Hemsworth "Blackfly Song," Lennie Gallant's "Nellie J. Banks," and the traditional "Farewell to Nova Scotia." The album also includes two Evans originals. Although the album breaks no new ground it is a pleasant collection. The most notable track is the trio's unusual interpretation of "Farewell to Nova Scotia," usually taken at Indy 500 speed. Instead they have slowed it down into a sensitive anthem, a very effective treatment.
