Night Sun, a folk/pop band from Iqualuit in the Northwest Territories, brings a strong sense of the Far North to their music. With lyrics and lead vocals by Ellen Hamilton, Calling starts off with "Damn This Wind," a song that, according to the liner notes, conveys "how the North is a constant nag at my heart whenever I flirt with going south." "You're Not Bad" deals with the problem of how so many northern, native boys, "despite their beauty and potential, have a better chance of going to jail than graduating from high school." "8 Months of Snow" is a song Hamilton wrote as a teenager in Holman, an Inuvialuit community on the Beaufort Sea. Hamilton's soft, earthy vocals are backed up by Paul Meggs, Chris Coleman, Bob Longworth, and Erik Coleman.
