Saskatoon singer-songwriter Paddy Tutty is a consummate interpreter of traditional material from Britain, Ireland, and North America. An accomplished musician on guitar, fretted dulcimer, and fiddle, her albums are finely crafted creations that delight, play after play. Her third album, and first CD, Prairie Druid (1992), presents a mix of traditional Celtic material interspersed with some original Tutty compositions. For those who love traditional music, this album, featuring Tutty's captivating voice and instrumental work, is highly recommended. Guest musicians include Ian Mackie on tablas, berimbau, tambourine and tabor; John Geggie on double bass and fretless bass; Ian Robb on English concertina and Morris bells; Pippa Hall on backup vocals; John Henderson on bodhran and vocals; Peter Kiesewalter on shawm; and Ian Tamblyn on keyboards and hammered dulcimer.
Commenting on In the Greenwood (1998) Tutty observes that "The journey which has brought me to this place began over two decades ago when I embarked upon studying and performing traditional music of Britain and Ireland. Through this exploration I have found immeasurable inspiration and solace in the old tales, powerful melodies from a land steeped in history." The material on this CD, which spans four centuries, reflects Tutty's love of traditional material and her beautiful arrangements which include instrumentation on guitar, fretted dulcimer, fiddle, anglo-concertina and harpsichord. Produced by Ian Tamblyn, there is also a fine cast of backup musicians from the Ottawa area, including John Geggie, Andy Daub, Kathy Armstrong, Wendy Davis, Shelley Posen, Ian Tamblyn, and the Ottawa Folklore Centre chorus.
