The name Yakudo means "to be full of life and energy." When this Toronto ensemble performs on Japanese taiko drums on Yakudo, they fully live up to their name. The drummers, as the liner notes indicate, are able to "create a variety of sounds as quiet as a gentle rainfall to as loud as a raging thunderstorm." The group also incorporates flutes and gongs. The expressive drums of Yakudo underscore the poetry that is possible with one of the world's oldest folk instruments. Members of the ensemble include Sam Baba, Chris Hano, Craig Hayama, Randy Hayama, Darren Miyasaki, Gary Nagata, Miyako Panalaks, and Mark Sano.
