Kathleen Yearwood

(Contemporary; Singer-Songwriter)

"[Book of Hate] is a very strange album ... I just wish her message was a little less oblique"--Dirty Linen. Many listeners may be as perplexed as the Dirty Linen reviewer in trying to understand and appreciate Book of Hate. The aggressive guitar work contrasts sharply with her soft, lilting soprano vocals. Yearwood is a talented singer and there are some strong moments on the album, which is a mix of traditional material like "Peggy Gordon" and "Tam Lin" and original material, all delivered in a highly unorthodox style. The angry, sometimes pointed, lyrics, the strange, smouldering delivery, and the sudden explosions of electric guitar imitating industrial noise make this a difficult album to assimilate.
